Abstract
Hydrogen, a constituent in many chemical compounds in nature, is a key component for several chemical processes such as hydrogenation, hydrocracking, and hydrotreating, or even for fuel. On the other hand, Synthesis gas containing hydrogen, which is one of the most popular intermediate products are used in many industries. There are many ways for production of hydrogen such as reforming of hydrocarbons (e.g. natural gas), partial oxidation, autothermal reforming, membrane reactors, and thermal gasification of biomass and waste. In the world, more hydrogen is produced from natural gas. In this study, several methods of hydrogen production have been considered and all advantages and disadvantages of listed technologies have been expressed. Finally, according to these points optimum technology for hydrogen production has been proposed.
